Arts & Letters @ Southern Miss

Think. Create. Grow.

This manual is provided to give advisers information to assist them in advising their students. In addition to this manual, other useful resources are available for advisers. All advisers need the proper resources to carry out their tasks. In addition to this handbook, the following publications are essential:

Moreover, you need some knowledge of how to use the Southern Miss Information System, SOAR. The university technology office, iTech, offers training sessions for you to access this system. You may contact the Help Desk at 601.266.HELP (601.266.4357) for information.

Finally - but urgently - we would ask faculty not to guess when difficult advising questions arise. Please ask your department chair or call the Office of Student Services (601.266.4963) for suggestions. No one likes the run-around. Poor advising can cause graduation delays and needless worries for students and their families.
